• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Is it okay to ask about these here? Just wondering what these are going for. Didn't they used to be $6,000 or something atrocious? Now it seems they're coming way down, or am I wrong?

Has anyone had a chance to play one of the mahogany 59 V's yet? How do they compare to the korina ones?

I think they're selling for 6600 or more in korina. 3300 or so in Mahogany. RICH has both, they are nice machines.
I've seen a korina '67 V too.

I've seen a Korina copie listed under $2500. at Sunrise Guitars im upstate NY. The Korina wood is typically featherweight and very resonant usually under 7 lbs. The mahoghany ones seemed to be a lot heavier, but still look like the real deal. Check out the heel joint to make sure it is done like the original ones. Builders tend to take shortcuts on this detail.

If the korina one you're talking about is a gibson, it's an '82 or '83 and not entirely accurate.
If it's not a Gibson, that's another thing.

Yup, the Korina ones are $6600, and the mahogany ones are $2995, and I "think" $3300 with the split headstock. Those '59 types are my favorite, big necks with a LONG ass tenon, and strong as hell. The Korina has a different voice, its just incredible, but the mahogany ones are pretty damn close, and at less than half the price, it is a must have for a V head. Most of the mahogany ones I tried were super lightweight, so unless you REALLY need the voice of the korina, the mahogany ones kick ass. I'm a die hard V head, so I had to have both. In the end the Korina is my favorite though.

Ed R,

The Sunrise guitar IS another thing. It was built by Peter Florence.

I used to score Korina from him

back in the early "90's. The Korina for the PRS came from him and that was without a doubt my favourite guitar that they built for me. The back was 1/4" thicker than stock. Huge flamed Korina V neck too.

Thanks RICH. The mahogany one looks cool as hell and I'll have a much easier time talking myself into spending $3000. $6600 is just not gonna happen but I gotta have a 50's V to go along with my 60's V.

I beleive the one at Sunrise Guitars is $2K. If they are dead on copies then that seems like a fairly decent price?

I dunno if they're dead-on copies or not. i DO know that if Peter Florance made it it's a helluva guitar.

This may be blasphemy to mention in here, but a year and a half ago or so I bought a limited edition (only 72 were made) 1997 Hamer Korina Vector. It is an AWESOME guitar. Perfect construction, fret and nut work, light weight, pretty to look at, sounds great, etc. Oh yeah, and it cost less than a third of what the Gibson Historic Korinas go for. Anyway, just wondering what you Gibson Flying Vee aficionados have to say about those guitars.

There's no denying the "Killer" stuff Hamer builds. Enjoy it! I wish I had one.
