THIS IS THE 25th ANNIVERSARY YEAR FOR THE LES PAUL FORUM! PLEASE CELEBRATE WITH US AND SUPPORT US WITH A DONATION TO KEEP US GOING!
We've made a large financial investment to convert the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and recently moved to a new hosting platform. We also have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!
Please support our Les Paul Forum Sponsors with your business - Gary's Classic Guitars, Wildwood Guitars, Chicago Music Exchange, Reverb.com, Throbak.com and True Vintage Guitar. From personal experience doing business with all of them, they are first class organizations. Thank you!
Ok then, that settles that!
Thanks to you, I'm gonna put that answer in my "things I never gotta wonder about again" mental database
I had wondered about the description from dude who appraised it , saying it was a 60/61 les paul neck..
I mean, is it a 60 or a 61?
Anyone who puts a 60lp next...
Yeah, if you're trying to put an sg neck on a les paul, the heel is thinner, to match the sg body, so it can't be done without a lot of extra work.
What I wonder whether Gibson used les paul necks from stock , and put them on sgs ( shaving them down ) at the end of the 1960 LP production run...
Are you saying that a 1960 LP neck could not be shaped at the pocket/heel to fit a 1961 SG/LP?
I know it won't work the other way around, because the sg joins the body further down the board than on an lp. However
not ever measuring a sg/lp tenon, or comparing it to a same timeframe lp , I'm...
This just occurred to me
I bet the dude who messed up that appraisal never bothered to plug it in.
So, here are a couple of old youtube videos, so you can decide for yourselves
what is the coolest thing about Wilma
( hint ) "It aint them Norlin' inlays lol"
Like the guitar, the playin's not...
Mr. Slub, if you ever allowed me into the room where these guitars are being re acquainted with, I would take up permanent residence inside one of the cases. Neither my wife nor friends or customers would ever hear from me again.
You have impeccable taste, and an incredible collection. Thanks...
For content; at the time I purchased the 54 lp, I didn't know the neck was supposed to be fatter, so I thought my 54 was an original everything ( - 3 pounds of bad paint on the top )
and it wasn't till Bill Fajen showed me his beautiful stock 54, followed by Terry Mueller confirming a neck...
Wonderful guitars! Being a Santana fan, and not taking away from the others, I can see the draw to the early sg special. Quick question; Is it the angle of the photo, or does the 61 Special have a smaller headstock than it's sg/lp from the same year?
