Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!
Hi. I am thinking of getting a new Gibson just for the G Force tuners. It seems many people are not crazy about them. I am just wondering if there is any compelling reason I should not get them. Let me tell you where I come from:
1. I already have two Les Pauls, so I am not getting my first...
ok, this is a public service announcement.
I just found water spots on the finish of my les paul.
these nitro-lacquer is very fragile!!!
I must've once wiped my guitar down with a towel that was too damp, and left water doplets behind.. which etched into the finish.. all those minerals in...
Ok, it might not be the Pots.. but it all started after I swapped out all the gibson pots for a set of CTS.
After I put everything back together, the guitar sounds horrible. It sounds as if..
There is a huge capacitor between the signal and the ground
Symptoms:
Output is LOW.. for either...
well I just got myself a few jensens and I made some measurement and I found something very interesting..
I got five jensen copper foil 0.022 caps. their measurements are .0223, 0.0225, 0.0233, and the other two between 0.0225 and 0.0233
so they are well within the -20/+30% tolerance.
now...
I recently changed the tophats on one of my les paul standards to speed knobs... I got a pack of Gibson replacement knobs and a pack of AllParts..
check this out..
the left one is a an oem knob straight off of my other 2001 standard, the center one is the gibson replacement knob, and the...

I mean.. what if you got a reissue and you need to replace a pot or something?? does gibson sell them seperately??

Does anyone know where I can get those new CTS pots and bumble bee caps Gibson use on their new Historic series??
I found some bumble bees on davesguitar but they're like $80 a pair and that's like totally ridiculous.
Can I do a whole upgrade (pots and caps) for under, say, $80????? Am I...
ok, I couldnt stop grinning when I hear this.. this sounds so cool.. notwithstanding that my playing sucked!! I was still trying to figure out the chord progression and I was actually reading the sheet music when I was playing the rhythm part and I got a bar or two wrong. anyway, the guitar is a...
interestingly they refer to the classic inlay as "green" inlay instead of "aged" inlay as before!!!! they admit it, it's official, it's supposed to be green!!!! also.. the classic is no longer available in flamed top.. it will be the ONLY plain top production les paul available!!!
and what's...

so how do they sound??? everything I expected.
first, #3. I used to have a 498T (came with the guitar of couse).. that was too...
general warning about those reproduction PAF decals on the burstbuckers... I saw some wire strands caught between the cover and the baseplate, so I took out my compressed air to blow on the baseplate to "suck" the wires out.. the burst of air blew off half the decal!!! the decal did not adhere...
ok.. so I've screwing around again.. this time I decided to put a alnico V magnet from a 498T in a 500T and see what kinda sound I get.
well, the sound I got was, well, kinda sucked.. it was dark, with little harmonics. I wasnt surprised with the absence of harmonics because with the coils...
