• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Playing standing , sitting down and effect of gravity on tuning ?

Is this normal, my standard is about 9lbs 4oz and if its in perfect tune when played on strap standing up, I can then play it seated and the tuner will show some of the strings have drifted. I then play it standing up again and all is in perfect tune once more. Can the effect of gravity upon the...

Oh Jeez !! Think this is the most ignorant review of a Gibson guitar ive ever read

Was looking at ultimate guitar, im a big fan of the les paul custom, speshilly the white ones.......yum :peace2 stumbled across this review of a custom and dont think ive ever read anything as ill informed in all my days, read this and weep.:wah Price paid: $ 4000 Purchased from: Guitar...

Historic Standard & Historic Custom neck, think this theory could be right ?

Ive owned both a historic standard and a historic custom les paul, ive played both in humid conditions. Whereas the standard neck became repeatedly sticky and fast chord changes were a chore, the neck on the custom was always like glass , regardless of ambient conditions. As we know , the...

Who are the fans of the Ivory White Les Paul Custom ?

I know there are a lot of players who deem THE color of the Custom to be Ebony. The 78 that John Sykes used with the silver pickguard and pickup rings was immediately identifiable and was his thing, but Im a big fan of the antique ivory white Custom. Take the pickguard straight off and put it...

Most effective and easy to install locking tuners for a Les Paul ?

Im just toying with the idea of replacing the rotomatics on my les paul with a set of locking tuners. Ive no idea about which tuners I can replace the grovers with, with the least amount of hassle or drilling holes. Ive read that the grover 106 locking type are a bit fussy to use and can be a...

If the LP had been YOUR design, ONE change you would have made ?

No guitar grabs me in the way a LP does, its always been and always will be the #1 guitar for me. But say it was your design , can you sugggest one design alteration you would have made ? I really, really , really HATE the pickguard. It serves no purpose for me whatsoever and just irritates...

Just cannot deal with sticky nitro neck issue !!

Talk about ruining the enjoyment of a guitar for me :wah Playing my R8 is fine for about 10 mins, then once my hands warm up and get a bit sweaty, the neck gets grippy and its driving me insane. There are no tacky patches and the nitro is 100% cured , I cant keep running to a water faucet to...

What string gauge do you put on your historics ?

I know its a very personal thing, Id have nightmares if I fitted my 01 R8 with 9s, 10s are still too rubber bandy for me and I opt to fit my gtr with 11s. Specifically d`addario 11-49 set. Because of the 24.75 neck length , the 11s dont feel like 13s on a strat ( yuk ! ) they still fight back...

I love thick necks, but those R7 Goldtops ....jeezus !!

Yep, I think big neck = big tones and thats why Ive no time for plywood ibanez guitars with paper thin necks :timc , I was in a music store yesterday and I spotted a nice looking R7 hanging there. I have a 2001 R8 myself and she has a chunky neck that is heaven for me, but nothing prepared me...

Seymour Duncan Custom Custom pickup in a les paul ?

anybody ever tried one of those in the bridge ? i have voodoo 59s in my 01 R8 but Im a superfan of big juicy and fat midrange tones coming from the bridge pickup. ive had a duncan custom many years ago but hated it as i found it sterile and toneless, im merely curious as to how the custom...

Members of the "No Solvents near My Historic" club ?

Dan Erlewine doesnt use solvents ,a good guff of his breath and a rag are all he uses. Ive read from too many sources NOT to use solvents on your nitro finished guitars. Last night I took a set of used d`addario 11-49 strings off my 01 R8 and I lemon oiled the fretboard so it plays nice and...

Anybody use Finger Ease on back of Historic neck for summer ?

:jim :jim Dang it, its so humid and sticky and the sweat is blinding me. My hands are sweating so much that I cant get around my 01 R8 as nimbly as when its cooler and less humid. I usually use Farecla non-silicone car polish on the back of the neck and it works a treat , when its not this...

gotta have beautiful cleans and take pedals exceptionally well via loop. id use such as an amp as a clean platform and get my driven sounds via pedals . gotta be tight in the low end and sweet and warm at the top, preferably not a lot of tube sag neither. not interested in 75 lbs mesas either...
