• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Would you buy a Gibson with this neck repair?

If it was EXACTLY what I was looking for and the price was discounted enough, I'd definitely consider it. I wouldn't buy it without playing it first. In the world of Reverb.com, I feel it's good to point that out. Breaks aren't the end of the world. If you're looking for an instrument you want...

Value of modded 1977 Les Paul Custom

I'm considering refretting my 79. I want to be clear that these low/flat frets WORK. I just don't like the feel. Add to it that I have a pretty aggressive picking hand which can create problems. And I think a side issue is that the nut is cut SO LOW to work with these frets that I'll probably...

    Toggle Tip Question

Hi all, I've replaced the plastic toggle tip on my '79 Custom with a gold one. It looks great and I quite like the feel as well. But, it keeps loosening. Obviously, plastic flexes so it self tightens on the threads while metal won't do that. My question, is there anything (some type of...

Value of modded 1977 Les Paul Custom

So, I own a '79 Custom that looks almost identical to this (though it's in better shape). Here are my thoughts so you can add this into your equation. 1. I absolutely love the neck on this thing. It's my favorite LP neck I've ever played, hands down. I like 60s style thinner/smaller necks and...

    Burstbuckers and High Gain

Yes, this seems to be the common theme. The burstbuckers are kinda microphonic so, potting them would make sense. But, at that point I'd prefer to just replace them. I do really like how they sound under just a LITTLE gain, but they're just unfortunately not very versatile for me. ***Emphasis on...

    Burstbuckers and High Gain

I'll do some research on adjusting pole pieces. I've seen some videos pop up about it. One of my solutions has been a little similar. I typically combat it by taking tone down to 8, switching to middle position and taking the neck pickup down to about 6 or 7. It helps, but ALSO cuts the...

    Burstbuckers and High Gain

I'll jump back into tone studio and see if I can use the eq more to cut some of the high end.

    Burstbuckers and High Gain

You got it. My idea of high-gain. Black album Metallica I think is a good generic tone. I can get there very easily on my LP Custom. So, super saturated, thick and responsive to palm muting and "chugging" for lack of a better word. I'm currently in a Soundgarden cover band and I struggle to get...

    Burstbuckers and High Gain

Hello all! So, looking for advice. I have a 2020 Les Paul Standard (Tri-burst) that I really love the feel of, but I am STRUGGLING with dialing in high gain tone on these Burstbuckers. Incidentally I had the same thing happen on a 2019 LP Standard I had a few years ago and I think it's just the...

1979 LP Custom - Neck Pickup Hum

I'm VERY happy with the 498T in the bridge. The T Tops sounded like garbage when I originally got it but didn't realize it was actually the pots that were just making it a mess. Did the pickup swap and was so confused as to why they still sounded so anemic. Replaced the pots and suddenly the...

1979 LP Custom - Neck Pickup Hum

I think I'm going to take the 490 out of the neck and put the T Top back in (as it's covered) and see what that sounds like. I really want the saturation with the bridge pickup that the T Top just didn't have. So the neck is free to kind of be whatever it wants to be, haha.

1979 LP Custom - Neck Pickup Hum

The neck pickup is uncovered so I'm going to FIRST try taking the cover off the old T-Top and put it on the new pickup. Maybe that'll help.

1979 LP Custom - Neck Pickup Hum

Thank you! I'll talk to the tech about this. He really didn't want to drill into the body, but this doesn't sound that bad.

1979 LP Custom - Neck Pickup Hum

Hey all, been researching this for a month and finally decided to set up an account and try my luck here. I have a 79 LP Custom and I recently swapped out the pickups for a 490/498 set. I also swapped out the pots for Sweetwater's Emerson prewired set. The pickups sound great. Perfect for what...
