• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

It still seems to me, that these 54-56 Customs have a bit thicker body than late 50s ones or even later. Could someone make a comparison with 54-56 and for example 57-60 one?

I wish I could help, but I only have my '56 :(

Could you please measure the body thickness on the side of the body? (from both sides edges) Would it be possibloe to measure in milimetres or centimetres? :)

Sure thing...have look at the photos, it is around the 47-48mm mark...

Wow, thanks. :) Interesting, it must be my optical illusion then (perhaps thinner binding) or what. :hmm My 69 Custom is 49 mm thick and from these photos i would swear that this one has thicker body.

Hey no probs!

It may be just the photo, although these guitars were handmade so there will always be a variation :)

Here's a guitar that was listed as a '53...but was probably a '54 :)

I still haven't got one, since both vintage and historics are rare as hen's teeth where I am, but this is by far the best thread (IMO of course) in all my years at the LPF...:jim I love it when this thread gets a bump when it seems I've seen everything.

Youtube alert! a great '56 at Elderly. They have had it for a while, and I do have photos in my archives, but nice to see some video.

I will try and pre-set the video below the the point where they show the BB...I hope it works...if not, just skip towards the end...you'll see her :)
