• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Original burst taken apart and meticulously photographed...Burst 101...required read!

I believe this guitar is also in the BOTB with a different serial number...namely 9 1823 ( page 164)

:hmm

Meaning that the series of pics n the link are two different guitars..

Or..?

Same guitar, but the lighting, angle, and size of the photo in BOTB makes it look like a different guitar. You need to almost get out a magnifying glass and look at the wear marks to see it's the same. OMITN has laser eyes.

Wow what an eye-opener. :dude:

The take-away for me is that even the best historic makeover Les Pauls, w/ aging, don't come anywhere close to the authentic patina of real vintage Les Pauls. The makeovers may sound real close to vintage examples, but that's where it ends. They'll never get the authentic patina of vintage examples to the point where the two are indistinguishable.

Damn - That's a good eye. I've never have seen that unless I got out the microscope.

Other than having a good memory for the interesting ones, I can't take any credit whatsoever Scott...these Gentlemen were on it 11 years ago...

This guitar 9 1251 and 9 1823 as listed in the BOTB are the same guitar...This picture from Burst Serial compared with the BOTB picture is strong...

What is intriguing is the serial number anomaly. An error in BOTB perhaps?

Vlad Lashing at Lashing Guitars is a joke. There are several serious mistakes in that article....factually wrong. I'm not sure why the LPF would link to poorly researched data.

All he did was re-post photos from a Japanese magazine and add commentary...apparently he cant read Japanese. :hee:hee:hee

Oh, and what he DIDN'T say, says even more....

Since, in my opinion, one of the main purposes of this forum is education, please tell us what is factually wrong with his observations. I think we're all here to learn. I know I am.:jim
