I just purchased a True Historic 58 from CME and it is awesome. Better feel than my 2012 58 historic. Brighter than the '12 maybe the hide glue?

I guess my question comes from the fact that I was'nt aware that Gibson made limited edition guitars for some of their big dealers. I was just looking for positive or negative feedback. I'm totally in love with mine and is'nt that what really matters? Two things: 1. How many of you top wrap your strings over the tailpiece? 2. Does the aniline dye used on the back of your neck bleed over into the binding a lot.
That said, this is hands down the best guitar I have ever owned !!!

There does seem to be some bleed on binding. The guitar is the best Les Paul I ever had. I purchased mine for $5300 but it listed for over $8K. You can get one used for just under $5K. To me it is not worth paying more than $6K for a guitar unless it is a vintage guitar from the 50's or 60's. The TH is a very good guitar and I know that they cost more to build but I don't care about plastics being exact. I was more interested in the hide glue and the thin finish, etc.

Here is my TH:

What's different about them compared to regular historics?

More attention to detail basically. I didn't get a chance to play my guitar before I bought it so I thought that Gibson would makes sure the TH were excellent in every way. If I had a large Gibson Dealer near me where I could try out various Historics and True Historics I would go for the instrument the had the finest feel regardless of it being a TH or not.

Yes I was kind of in the same position as you,in not having a bunch if any to try out first. So I rolled the dice and bought my 2016 standard historic used from a store online. It was a good roll of those dice. Here's a couple of pics of the binding with that bleed thru..seems a little much to me,but maybe that's how a real one might look today after a lot of playing time.

I was told that the big boss at Chicago Music Exchange is a huge LP fan,so he got with gibson and they had 5 standard historic "58's" built and spec'd out the necks omewhere between 58 & 59 and maybe tweaked the pup's a little. Then gibson made 5 more and I think they are all gone,so I feel very lucky to have one...especially at $3800.00 shipped...(not from CME).

Good looking top.

More attention to detail basically.
Please explain what this means exactly and how these CME R8s have been given more attention to detail than any other historic. I can understand CME specifying a particular neck carve, pickups, finish, maximum weight, choosing woods, etc, but more attention to detail? Come one. That's like saying "Gibson, please make me a special guitar" and presto it's a magical one.

This is my first Gibson les paul, standard historic reissue. That info was told to me by a CME employee over the phone. I took away from that conversation that these were just a special run done just like they would have been done for anyone else past, present or future. I think from what I've learned on hear and knew from other research is that the year of production for this (historic) series format is what may contribute to the differences in the guitar. I was just looking for feedback from anyone of the other 9 possible owners that might be on the forum....That's all!...thx's
Besides I bought it because I came into the money it took to get one...it was now or never!
A great pre-retirement reward!!!

No idea on the CME 58 LP's. But my purchasing experience with CME was as good as any I have ever heard. Super happy with my purchase from CME.

I was referring to the True Historics not the CME LPs in general, although the neck is not as thick as my 2012 Historic so maybe they do have a different neck spec. I think any company that expects to charge a premium has to pay more attention to command the price. The True Historics may be over priced but Gibson is putting more time in manufacturing them. The amount of the premium is what I debate. I'm not paying more than 6K on a non-vintage instrument. That is how I feel about the price point. If I had more income maybe, I wouldn't mind forking out more, but in my mind it is the law of diminishing returns.

As far as CME goes, from what I understand they setup the guitar before they ship it out which I like. The big box stores never did that for me.

Funny. I ordered one of the last Slow Iced Tea Fades but CME sent me a PSL '16 1960, Lightly aged on accident. I wanted the finish of the 1960 and had them measure the neck at the 1st and 12th. I guess they put the wrong one in the case. Anyways, happy accident. But being a 2016 Custom Shop one off (Beauty of the Burst finish p. 137) there's some True Historic appointments and some regular custom shop appointments on my CME one off. Deep dish, all hide glue including the top as confirmed by Gibson customer service, truss rod placment. What's not True Historic is the plastics and pickup covers. It weighs about 9 pounds. So my theory is that Gibson took a heavy weighted constructed True Historic, put the plastics of the 2014 line, aged it, put a special finish on it and sold it to CME and instead of cutting their losses by not selling as a True Historic they made their nut with the aging and BOTB color. This thing sustains. Best sounding Les Paul I've ever had. To include chambereds, Featherweights and regular custom shop models from various years after 2008. This one is it. I didn't even have to put Tonepros locking hardware on it for a change. Oh, I did put in a Throbak harness, pickup covers and Retrospec toggle washer, knobs and Mojoaxe Vintage Les Paul pick guard. Now it's a True Historic without the serial number.

Can't speak for the '58s but I have one of their True Historic '60s and it's so good that it literally keeps me up at night because I can't stop thinking about playing it. And yes, I totally recognize how insane that sounds... :wow

These were a really cool run of guitars; Gibson supposedly doesn't do the "Slow Iced Tea Fade" finish regularly because it's the finish from the Pearly Gates run. That was the most special thing about this run, but the lower output Custombuckers (double black under the covers as it's a '58 Reissue) are really nice. The necks are also standard '59 necks, not the thinner profile that was on 2016 True Historics. Joel from CME showed them off in this video (he's playing the one I ended up getting):

I put a pair of ECP "Hallowed Ground" pickups in it because I got a good deal on them and I had an ES with hotter Burstbuckers that desperately needed some nice vintage output pickups so I moved the Custombuckers to that guitar. They're fantastic pickups, I would've gladly kept them in the R8. Mine has lots of binding bleed all over the neck and on the body where my arm rubs it.

That's stunning, almost a completely different guitar from the video to your photos. :salude

I swear it looks different from every angle. It's a very cool top, sometimes it almost looks plain but sometimes it looks like it's on fire. Just took this now:

Took this one as I was packing it up to go out a couple months ago:

These les Paul's are truely stunning!,I find my self just staring at mine when I'm not playing it. Which brings me to a couple of questions for you les paul experts. Is anyone wrapping the strings over the tailpiece and are you using a larger gauge other than the gibson string set of 10-46??...oops! I should have put this in the tech forum.
