• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

I was talking to Joe the other day, and since he's started his unofficial "Bursts across America" tour, he has played 34 different bursts(along with his 3 for a total of 37).

I don't know that any of us, even the old timers, have played that many in that short of a time.

Joe.....you're living the dream my friend!:jim

WOW 37 :wow :3zone

It would be cool if anyone with a burst could get it to Joe while on tour (Isn't he always on the road?) and see what the grand total of bursts he can play before the end of the year.

Cool idea!

Sorry, no Burst, but Joe if you like P90s I can bring my 54 Goldtop to the Vienna State Opera in June. You can email me through the forum.

Just unreal. It would be like a dream to be around that much talent and millions of dollars in guitars. Just think those 7 burst or so or even 9 counting the two at Gruhns were all bought for less than 2500.00 probably total back then if you consider some were bought at a discount but just say all were bought at full retail thats still less than 3000.00 bucks. Todays value = millions. Whos to say how much each is worth to their owners. I know if I were to own any one of them I wouldnt sell period. Even the two orphan 60s at Gruhns. Matter of fact I've played the brighter 60 at Gruhns a couple of times it was nice I so I couldnt imagine being around or seeing any of those other burst. My heart would probably give out.

So have these bursts been setup for those shows with his strings etc, or does he play them as-is if they're different?

Here's Brad's burst. It's a 9 06XX series guitar. JUST KILLER!

I'm 99% certain that this burst was a resident for a while about twenty years ago. A Corvette collector and friend of Lou Gramm had it.

I think he is very particular....I believe he said in a previous thread that he has them set up to his specs all the way up to the top wrapped stop tail (see above).

Yeah...Mike sets them all up for him. Mike does a killer set up job. Although the one above is Brad's. Brad must like it top wrapped as well.

Joe plays Ernie Ball 11s on Les Pauls. At the shows I've attended with a guest burst, Mike Hickey (Joe's tech) restrings the guitar. If the tailpiece is pristine (i.e. no signs of ever being top wrapped), then it gets strung the conventional way to keep the tailpiece unmarred. If it has evidence of having been top wrapped, then it gets top wrapped for the show unless the owner objects. I haven't seen Mike adjust the intonation.

I usually don't mess with the intonation in case the owner of said guest burst plans to return to their original lighter strings. And we are usually using the guitar for one or two songs.
