Saw this clip posted on another forum a few days ago. Allegedly, he has toured Asia for the last few years and more recently signed a big deal with Universal as a result of the buzz he generated on youtube. Not my cup of tea either, but I wish I could figure out something to post on youtube that would get me that far :)

Friends send me a lot of "gimmick" guitar player clips and I usually make it about10 seconds. I actually made it to the end of this clip someone sent today. Not my cup of tea but one of the better textural players I've seen. I hear he's in his 20's.

Michael Hedges was the first I have noticed to play this way. Now there is Swati and Kaki King. I kinda like it on the Stereo when I want someting mellow. I saw Michael Hedges with Leo Kottke once, Leo, as phenominal as he is, acutally bored me after a while. I would have liked to see him with a band and singing some songs, but it was purel instrumental and no singing.

That was pretty cool, j45. Something different.

Strat God - that's what I'm talking about! Gilbert, Yngwie, and Vai, three of my favorites. You know, a lot of people just think of Gilbert as a shredder but I recently got a few of his solo albums and he's playing all kinds of stuff on them. He also did a blues album with his Uncle, Jimi Kidd, that I haven't heard yet. You just get the feeling after seeing some of his instructional videos and hearing his range of material (Racer X, Mr. Big, and solo), that he could pretty much play anything he wants to. I remember a quote from him a long time ago about technique that was something like "I want to have enough technique to be able to play anything I hear in my head". And I think he can. Plus, he's a cool dude not always in full-time "I'm a rock star" mode. Check out his website, www.paulgilbert.com, it's hilarious!

Nice clip j45.

Preston Reed practically wrote the book on this playing style.
