acoustically, don't have the action so low that it chokes the strings, plugged in; add a bit of reverb and delay when playing clean and just a bit of delay when playing with a bit of overdrive and you will have plenty of sustain
if you want to go into absurd levels of sustain, play your guitar in front of the amp when overdriven for some nice feedback
pickup heights play a big part ..make sure they’re not to far away from the strings ...on the average I never go more than 1/4” away or 1/16” closer ..measured with the last fret depressed
