A question on pots for a Les Paul wired guitar.....

I'm not clear on the whole "taper" thing..... not Audio vs Linear..... but the 10% vs 30% thing.

My current understanding (and it may be flawed, please correct me!) is that ..... at some point in the travel DOWN the pot from the TOP.....maybe the middle..... the signal is down 30% (on a 30% of course) and then it drains down from there.... as you keep going.

1) do the pots that Gibson packages now meet the spec?

2) is it that important?

3) am I "over thinking" this??? (entirely possible!)
