Potted Custombuckers?

My 2018 R0 08774 has potted pickups, my new 2018 R0 081152 doesn't seem too, unlike my younger one the pickup screws were not hard to turn and there was no wax residue. I was hoping they were potted. I wonder what determines the criteria for getting a potted pickup.

Unpotted was a new spec change for 2019, that's the criteria. I think 2018s just had very little wax.

The one that doesnt have wax was made in December '18, I wonder if it was an Early Bird.

I am wondering if these may have wax after all, they dont squeal with high gain yet.

hit one with a heat gun and see if any wax drops out the bottom

I wouldnt want to undo the waxing procedure
