50’s Les Paul hardware plating

Here’s a simple question - yet I don’t know the answer. What finish/plating was used on the hardware, specifically the bridge and stoptail on the original LP goldtop standards? Was it chrome? Or was it nickel, or was it chrome that today has worn down to the nickel finish? I’m shopping for a new bridge for a “relic”, and I want to get the finish right. Thanks
