2018 R9 Serial Number

Hi all,

Usually, the R9 Historics that I have seen, have a serial number in the form:

9 xxxx.

However I saw a 2018, with a serial in the form:

98xxxx.

Did they change the serial number format for 2018?

What do you think happens after they make the 999th guitar?
Gibson is making well over 3,000 R9s a year now.
