Hey, all! I picked this amp up recently - a 50 watt 1987 replica by Rockitt Retro, made to 1968 specs. This amp is awesome!!! This is my first plexi replica. All of the classic tones that I have tried for years to get through pedals and lower watt Marshall-esque amps just fly out of this amp! It is so easy to get great tones from it. I plugged my vintage 1964 ES-335 into it this morning for the first time and it sounds unbelievable!

I bought it used for a really good price. It has the PPIMV added on the back, but I have not messed around with that yet. Right now I am playing it through the Aracom attenuator into the cab of my 1981 Marshall 2104 (2x12 combo version of the 2204).

Nice one!

Every 1987 style head I've ever come across has been a plug in and go kind of situation.

I also tried to go with the 18W TMB kind of things, but I always missed the oomph when I cleaned them up with the volume knob.

I haven't really played them back to back yet, but my initial thoughts are as follows. When I first read your question, my first thought was, "they are two different animals." As I thought about it more though, they actually have a lot in common. They share the very strong Marshall DNA, as you would expect. I tend to use the 2104 for medium gain classic rock kind of stuff, and it sounds great at that! So far, I have only done relatively low gain on the RR50. I need to explore its gain more. Still, I can say that both amps give great classic rock tones really easily!

I appreciate your thoughts.

I am a big fan of the early 2204 circuits.

That said, a JTM 50 clone is the best sounding "Marshall" I have ever played.
