corpse, you are correct that there is a third gain stage in the reverb channels of that DR...and all fender reverb amps that come to mind..as well as the 6G16. That gain stage is not a full blown gain effect as it is also making up for what the reverb and the trem in the opto-isolator trem amps suck out of the signal. There is a cleaner, more direct sonic in the Normal channels.
It is interesting to note how much gain those effects suck out. IN the non-verb amps like the Deluxe or the 1 x 15 Pro, the Normal channel is a hotter channel than the Vib channel just because of the drain that trem circuit puts on the signal. Some people disable the trem or use a 'no load' pot to take it out temporarily. and. no...using the footswitch does not prevent teh 'drain'.
RE: the trem in the 6G16 Vibroverb....since it is a bias vary trem and works on the output tubes' biasing, the trem effect is available for both channels.
