• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

The massive peer pressure here got to me and I picked up a minty used DRRI for cheap. First off, the stock Jensen is pretty flat sounding which I already knew, so I put in the Alessandro GA-SC64. Significantly better, highly recommended for a more musical and articulate sound, and slightly higher headroom. Secondly, my Strat really sounds great through it and I wonder if Leo created the scooped mid sound to match the staggered pole pieces on the strat pickup? The reverb is fine, but the Trem/Vibro is just "ok," kind of punchy (maybe I need to change that tube). More of a "crank it to 7 and use the volume knob on the guitar" than a pedal platform. Nice looking fun little amp. Now I sound like just about every recording made since the 1960's. All I need now is a cheap black suite, white shirt, skinny black tie and Ray Ban Wayfarers.

GOAT? No, I would give that distinction to another amp, and there are so many.

My 2007 DRRI sounds magnificent - especially with a Strat, Tele, or Rickenbacker.

The only mod I did was swap out the stock tubes for some JJ's.

My 64 DR just got serviced and sounds great. But… I just got a 67 Princeton Reverb, and I have to say, it’s the best sounding amp I’ve ever played through. I’m in love.

Depending on what you’re playing different amps might serve specific needs better but overall it’s hard to beat a good one.

One of them IMO. Though I'm an unapologetic Fender BF fan.
My early '65 DR and my newly acquired Feb '66 PR.

Gorgeous amps. I previously owned a Custom Shop 64’ Handwired that I sold off as I felt it just wasn’t the same vibe or tone quality as an original and a bit overpriced at $3000 as you can find an original for that. I don’t currently own an amp, sold everything I had before moving to NYC to start over. I think I’m gonna try to find an original deluxe reverb though, seems like the perfect NYC small bar/open mic amp, and it should hold its value.
