• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

I have a set of Grover Rotomatic's from the late '50's that are stamped "GIBSON" where the Grover name is usually stamped on the back. They came in the original Box that has an orange label marked GIBSON in place of the light green-ish Grover label.

View attachment 6290View attachment 6291 Here you go TW. Sorry it took a bit.

From all the info I have been given for decades about Grover Rotomatics, these are not "50s" era Grovers.

Yours have black ends, like these:

I have been told ALL 50s era Grover Rotomatics should have stell ends, like these:

That's not a date...it's a copyright.:jim

So? If TM1 says he has a set of Grovers from the 50's that say "Gibson" I believe him. I doubt they would come in a box with a copyright date of 1959 otherwise.

TM1's Grover's are no earlier than mid-'60s. TW is correct.

"From all the info I have been given for decades ....."

"

This is all third hand information. It proves nothing.

Feel free to believe whatever you want. However, facts are facts.

I doubt anyone will step forward with any "proof" to satisfy you. Perhaps consider doing your own research.

apparently this guy will only believe what TM1 states as gospel

Don [TM1] is a straight up guy with tons of experience.
I believe what he says, unless I have strong reason to believe otherwise.
AND .... I have made tons of mistakes [and said them on this Forum] in the past.
I am not attacking Don. I am trying to straighten out this discrepancy, which I have investigated in the past.

I don't own a vintage anything and never will unless I win a very large lottery. If I did, a vintage Les Paul would not be the first thing I would buy.

I have seen threads in this forum that go into great detail on how to tell if control knobs, poker chips, pick guards, etc. are truly vintage. In this case we have a set of Grover tuners, clearly marked with the Gibson name, in a box that is obviously very old, with a copyright date of 1959. As "proof" that they are not what TM1 says they are I read statements that essentially say "I have been told", "People say", and because Tom Wittrock "says so". Not what I would expect from the people on this forum when a statement is questioned.

Tom, if you have indeed done all this research, why not present it or at least provide something more concrete than "because"? I certainly would be interested in reading it. Maybe TM1 is mistaken and would acknowledge his mistake. I do find it interesting that he has not weighed into this discussion.

To all the rest of you, feel free to criticize and make fun of me all you like. It doesn't bother me in the least.

I'm done with this topic.
