• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

for newbies only (under 200 posts) what model LP and amp do you play the most and why

Left Handed Les Paul Standard- 1991 or somewhere around there

I dont play in a band anymore, haven't for quite some time. Been modifying and building amps and effects pedals for the past 20 years. I build and mod custom electronics for touring and production companies as well.

I like to test my gear and play through my Lefty 1991 (i think..) sunburst standard and a modified Marshall Studio 15. I like this combo because it cleans up very nice and clear, but I can drive the crap out of it with anything I put in front. I also use a modded JCM600 for anything I need an effects loop for.

Orange OR15. Kinda stumbled into it, wasn't looking for it, and not the kind of amp I would normally seek out, but got a good deal and it sounds great at low to mid gain levels at home volumes, which is how I play. Sounds great with my LPs into the Cannabis Rex, the Red Fang, and the Vintage 30 it came with.

2011 Studio Fireburst gloss stock, because I got a steal on it. Still looking for
the right older Standard.
Play through an Orange AD30 head with PPC212
cab, and a Fender Blues Deluxe Reisue.

Lately, my '72 Custom & '67 twin have been getting along just fine.

Why? I likes the sound, fat to twangy chock full of sustain & crunch free.

I play my Les Paul Studio. but mainly through my macbook but would prefer to use amps but where I live makes it difficult there is no way I can play loud.
I only have a old Orange crush 15r amp that I bought maybe 15 years ago but i do like it. I do have a blackstar fly 3 too but hardly use it.

I am trying to find a amp I can play at home that is good quiet but sounds nice.

95 LP Studio
93 LP Studio
SG Gothic
SG Special
(These were once LP's !)
Jet city JCA 20hv or JCA 20 or JCA 22h heads set to 6- 10 on master volume.Then into a JC Attenuator into a 90's Marshall 1960a 4x12 or a Beat up Marshall 1960ac 4x12 with 80's G12s 50
Almost always plugged straight in.
For practice an Orange micro dark terror with matching black 1x8 cab ....Because it sounds good and that's what I have now .

Mostly play in small bars and VFWs etc. I'm lead guitar in a four piece, usually bring my 2008 sunburst LP Standard because of the locking tuners. Also love the compound radius neck - I think this was the first year for that. Amp is either '73 Silverface Fender Deluxe Reverb with a Weber speaker or a stock Fender Blues Jr Tweed "NOS". Tried the '67 Bassman and even the drummer complained about the volume! Homemade pedalboard (on a "Holeyboard") or just a Boss ME-80. BTW, this is my first post ever.

I have 2 Les Paul LP 1 & 2 amplifiers, Les Paul Professional, and either a 1967 Rick 360 12 and Mosrite Combo 12. This is what I use the most. I have a 96 Lucille, and Rick 480 as well

My Les Paul is a 2016 Gibson Les Paul Traditional, but I've upgraded (IMHO) many of the parts: Faber Bridge and Stoptail, BKP Mules, 58 repro wiring and Grover kidney bean tuners (was perfectly happy with the original tuners, but a mishap at a gig broke one and I ended up upgrading them - happy with the change). Also some minor cosmetic tweaks - blank truss rod cover and original style control knobs rather than speed knobs. My aim was to get it reasonably close to a 59, without breaking the bank.

My amp is a Fender Mike Landau Deville and is an awesome amp. I'm a fan of a clean amp as a pedal platform and this amp was designed with this in mind (since that's how Mike rolls apparently). I run into it through an ever evolving chain of Wah, Boost and OD pedals - I usually have a couple of OD's, 1 for the LP and 1 for the Strat/Tele and then another to boost them for solos.

I have a recently purchased 2016 50s tribute gold top which I am trying to love don't really yet. Needs a set up and maybe pick ups. Not really digging the 490/498. I had an older studio that had these and I know it sounded better.i am playing through my older blues Jr with a new Celestion speaker. The original eminence was getting a bit tired. I use a bad monkey overdrive for a little extra flavor? If anyone out there has any suggestions or recommendations on pick ups or anything else I all ears. I'm thinking SD JB S4 in the bridge. I got a good price used from GC on the guitar so I want to keep it.

Depends what sound you're after, but I am more than happy with the Bareknuckle Mules I have in my LP. The Stormy Mondays are also very, very good. At some point I plan on getting a Goldtop and fitting a set of those to it...
