• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Update: Since Photobucket is holding my pics hostage, I'll suggest going to the end for the pics.

My wife's cousin is working on an old farmhouse, and asked if I was interested in buying the grand piano that's in the house. I'm a Piano Tuner-Technician for almost fourty years, so I get these calls all the time. When I got there, THIS is what I found. An 1880 Weber, 6 feet, 3 inches, Roccoco Style in BrazilianRosewood! $250.00 and it's yours! Sold!!! I will restore it in the Spring.

Hmmm...I see a little nick and scratch on the left hand side, just above the keyboard. I'm afraid it's a basket case. But at least it's an ideal conversion candidate. I envision a whole bunch of fingerboards, some sets of acoustic backs and sides, etc.! :dude:

:laugh2:

Congrats on the score, Steve!

1880 Ivory is OK

US Fish ad wildlife service
What is meant by the ESA antiques exception?
The import, export and interstate sale (sale across state lines) of listed species or their parts is prohibited without an ESA permit except for items that qualify as “antique”.
To qualify as antique, the importer, exporter or seller must show that the item meets all of these criteria:

  • It is 100 years or older;
  • It is composed in whole or in part of an ESA-listed species;
  • It has not been repaired or modified with any such species after December 27, 1973; and
  • It is being or was imported through an endangered species “antique port.”

Pianos are veneered, so not much solid rosewood to re-purpose. The amazing thing is, the profit potential is so massive after the restoration, it would keep from cutting up anything. I've seen similar 1880's Webers with this cabinet go in the 35-45K range.

With extremely rare exception, pianos have no antique value, rather their value comes from being a quality brand and a well-playing instrument. Restoration is a value-enhancing undertaking.

That is just so pretty! Enjoy it. Was I the only one seeing many guitar necks in that piano shot?
