• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

54 Black Beauty RI, anyone?

Please, thoughts and pictures, anyone?

It kind of caught my eye lately, so I'm in for opinions, please.

Thanks!

I had a 2000, and its had a great alnico pickup and a very smooth fret board.

It looked incredible....but as a playing guitar I disliked it. It was heavy, the Mahogany body was very dark in tone, and the neck was huge with squareish shoulders

Had it not been an internet buy/trade I would have walked away from it.

But it was a looker that's for sure.

The weight is what's been keeping me from buying one. I know there's a 9 lb or under '54 out there, with that HUGE neck and squarish shoulders, that I crave..!!!!

The one I bought is 9lbs - 4oz... I'm sure that the neck will be a lot like my '06 R4 GT, which is fine by me... :salude

After re-reading my "review" it makes it look very bad and that wasn't the aim....Its a very nice well built guitar that is just a knock out looker to say the least and its certainly iconic. It just wasn't for me.

good luck, I hope your very happy with yours.

I have one. Weight is 4.25kg

The sound is just amazing. I replaced the p90 with a duncan ant.
It's a good complement with my r4 and r8.

Nope... not yet. I just ordered it and it may be a few weeks at least. I had one before but this is my first with a bigsby. I like bigsbys anyway.

The one I had was really a great guitar but I was all into hum buckers at the time so it went.

nah your review was fine....I'm just saying, aside from the weight, the HUGE neck/shoulders is what I want.....and recently I found that CR4 (and even R7) BB Customs are almost impossible to come by, so I have to just wait for a lightweight R4BB

Here's my '72 Limited Edition that I've had since '73:

I love it!!!!! It's a "Fretless Wonder" and likely has my favorite neck out of all my guitars.

Like Midnight Blues I have the first RI, mine being a '73. Not too heavy, great sound (the bridge is honky like my '56 Special), great neck....all round winner.

Thanks everyone for so much information.

Sct13, your first "review" was good, thank you! Not to worry.

Hey, Axeman, how does the neck compare to a 58 RI?

Thanks!
