i have a 1980 model standard gold top (#83430698) with the 3 piece maple neck and volute. it's not 'slim' from the headstock and gets fatter around 10th or 11th fret. not like a production CNC type dealio. i also have a 1980 model deluxe ( #83530013) with a much thinner neck, same 3 piece maple neck construction but different profile. not a huge difference but it's noticeable and i've owned both them for 36 years.
the goldtop was made in Kalamazoo and the deluxe is from Nashville, purchased both of them brand new and still have them.
edit - they are both very heavy big fat boat anchor guitars. beautiful and back breaking. :dude:
i had them backwards didn't i? ha!THIS. My '77 Standard gets beefier toward the 12th fret..definitely not like a 50's OR 60's..I believe they "tried" to emulate this with the "70's Tributes..But from the SN#s, seems the Deluxe was Kzoo made, and the Standard in Nashville..The last 3 digits of the SN#: (from mid '77-84 anyways) 000-499=Kzoo, 500-999=Nashville.Or so it says in the books..
