• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Would you trade an R7 Stinger for a used 50th Anniversary R8?

Help me out here, guys.

I own a much-loved R7 Stinger, bought new by me from Music Machine in '03. Goldtop with a '60 slim-taper neck. All other specs as a "regular" R7 (with braz, of course). Completely stock.

A buddy is now offering to sell me his recently-purchased R8 50th Anniversary Murphy. Gorgeous guitar, of course, with a really nice figured top. I've held and strummed it acoustically but haven't plugged it in (yet). Only mod is an RS wiring kit.

I love my Stinger, but I'm now lusting after this R8 (call it burst-envy!). But the only feasible way for me to buy it is to sell the Stinger.

Should I? :wah

No,

At least wait to see whether the 50th R9's will come with Braz boards or not?????

If they don't then you should definitely keep the braz. board stinger!!!!

I wouldn't! When they were available, I wanted a Black '57RI Stinger. I didn't move on it & now I regret it. They're rare & hard to come by....

Which one sounds better should be the criteria in you decision. :jim

Thanks for all the replies, guys. Given the unanimous "NO" response from everybody so far, I kinda feel like an idiot for even asking...:nut I guess you could say I'm, uh, reconsidering things!

Hail no. Maybe for the R8 + $3.5k... maybe.

Pardon my ignorance, but is a goldtop R7 Stinger really worth that much more right now than a near-new R8 50th burst???

Here is my take........for real this time.

IMO, the Stinger is more of a "Blue Chip" valued guitar than the the 50th R8.
Right now, the 50th R8's have devalued by about $1500 so far. The Stinger is still worth more than what is sold for in '03 (currently 100% more).

The 50th R8 has the advantage of the PLEK process but, for me, it's not enough to give it the nod.

My initial reaction should be a barometer to the desireability of the Stingers.....and I'm serious.....if you want to sell.....please email me.

Only sell the Stinger for another Brazilian or trade + cash for a 50/60's vintage Gibson. That's it!
