Dude, I look out at every audience at every show and remind myself that those people paid good money to be there, maybe had to hire a baby sitter, paid for parking, bought a $12 USD beer and an overpriced T-shirt so that I can get paid to play guitar. It's not a hobby for a lot of us. When I play there are four other guys onstage depending on me to do my job.

Most folks here are probably bedroom players.
The tinkering and tone searching is their hobby.
It's like a cooler version of coin collecting because it's guitars and you can play them.
If this were an automotive forum, would you be telling people that their fixation on paint is useless because paint doesn't win races?
Most auto enthusiasts don't race and they still want a cool car.

Of course we had an old expression in high school, "If it doesn't go, chrome it." for wannabee performance cars. We spent our Friday nights when we weren't playing at the local drag strip with our cars. Anytime you managed to get into the 12's you were BMOC next Monday!

OK...I get it.
Everything you do is legit.
But I did say "Most", which I stand by.
I have restored many vehicles, mostly motorcycles, and some were specifically done to get high points at national shows.
Believe me, I know of what I speak.
I am 64 and have also been a touring pro player, so you no longer need to feel like you are the sole guardian of that territory on this discussion board.
