Who knows Virgil Arlo?

I read the forum posts and got the back story, then did a google search. My best guess is the founder of Tone Specific is Randall Van Dyke. He is the Virgil Arlo winder, created Tone Specific, and taught someone to make pickups under his brand name.

Reason I say this is.. the handwriting on the bottom of Virgil Arlo pickups has 3 distinct numbers, the 2, 5, and 9. Earlier Tone Specific pickups have the same distinct numbers. The writing changes to a much neater writing on all the newer Tone Specific pickups.

Because the timeline from the story doesn’t match up with the writing similarities and changes from years the pickups were made, it suggests he is the original Virgil Arlo winder and owner of Tone Specific. But has someone that is trained to make them now.

One example, from what I have read, is a lot of strat players agree that Eric Johnson pickups, made by Fender, sound just as good as anything or better made in recent history. :dude:
spot on.

a friend had them in a gustavsson astrocaster, on my recommendation. when he put the gtr up for sale, he swapped out the pickups to a bespoke set as folks beefed about the low rent ejs (which i think are absolutely spectacular.
