• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

What's Al D. playing these days?

Awesome! Watched this earlier. Wonder if the amp was supplied back line? Sounds great.
Also nice that Al is using LPs again.

The PRS "AL DiMeola" " PRISIM" Model........................ that never looked or sounded right. He sounded great here with the old Black Les Paul.................not the same guitar though I believe this one he is playing now is a newer guitar is it not? Here with the Black Les Paul on the last RTF tour he was on.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9M05Q02y4SU

Agreed on the Prisim!
Thanks for sharing that vid. Great stuff! Love the Romantic Warrior album. Also Hymn of the Seventh Galaxy with Bill Conners.

Flight over Rio, that sure brings back memories. Great to hear Al rip it up on electric playing his early stuff again. I learned how to alternate pick from listening to the Elegant Gypsy album.

it is the same guitar. Looks like a refin/conversion. of a 56-57 Les Paul (Logo looks low)

He used a gold top with DiMarzios when I saw the early RTF and that sounded great. Don't know what year this Custom is but it had a BIGSBY and VARITONE! HERE:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UGNBMNeytZU BTW he was supposed to have had a Sunburst and had it painted Black.............that would be the guitar. Here:With the Gold top.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wSksWyHsYw8 and with a Lp Sunburst unsure of the year on either guitar.................https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vGWfDkx4zyYHe has a very bad case of Tinnitus.............you can see him putting plugs in his ears............https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BPeyxTJLWQ8 and talking about it here as his last "Electric" tour https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eranJMdajqk I understand this type of music is not what some people consider great music...............Fusion.............but Al is one of greats on guitar.

I saw him recently in Orlando FL. He was playing a black single cut PRS and it didn't sound great . He played very well but the sound wasn't up to snuff. Could have been a myriad of reasons, I think he was getting phase issues from his clear shields perhaps. But ya never know, maybe the soundman was doing bong hits LOL j/k:laugh2: I've been a fan for years , great player and he seems like a really cool guy !

The Goldtop[with the double white DiMarzios] I now understand was a Norlin era guitar..............not that it makes it bad.The Black LP was a Sunburst [Refin] and it was painted black. I met him several times and he was always very nice taking the time to talk.

On that video at 2:00 you can see there is no body belly on that guitar. The top looks almost flat. I wonder if he had that done.

I think that was a GT that was converted to burst and then painted black? It has the low logo like a GT would have had.

I follow Al D. on FB . Most of his pics and vids have been with an LP. Only one looked like a PRS, and of course, an asssortment of acoustics..... He just played BB Kings. I'm glad he's getting a bit of recognition here. Just by his FB postings alone..He obviously prefers the LP's.:)

The guitar seems like the top is still normal. Yeah, low logo...

And the amp looks to be an Overdrive Special.
