I actually really like 60's Melody Maker pickups with old plexi's. Same thing goes for old Strats. Single coil pickups and old non-master volume high power amps cranked seems to be a match made in heaven. Makes me wonder what Hendrix's style of play would have become if those were never invented.

I like old humbuckers too, and am always on the lookout for old single coil guitars that have been modded to humbuckers. Especially when they come up at a good price. Stuff like the 64/65 Melody Maker in the picture below that Pat Travers favored. I wouldn't have the heart to mod a beautiful original guitar like in the link I put below the picture. A 1969 SG shaped Melody Maker.
