• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

I'm keeping an open mind. They won't be cheap, but they aren't going to price them as high as NOS tubes or no one will buy. Personally, I hope they can pull this off and manufacture at an affordable price.

I payed $625 for a NOS pair of 1956 coated glass MO KT66s from Tube World Express 7 years ago. But theyve gone up a bit to around $700 a pair.

Ah the good ol' days of cadmium, chromium, mercury and depleted plutonium. I got three pairs of GV6GC's a few years ago NIB from a Marconi museum sell-off- two pairs mated pretty well. I need to get the other ones tested- it was a haul.
But, again, my former Atl tech, well respected in that area- didn't think they had a huge impact on tone- didn't even bat an eye- just that it was fortunate for me that I happened to have the glass he needed to get my amp sounding right. Ruby's were his favorites. I think the huge difference we detect in a retubed amp, is that it goes from sounding sickly to back to sounding healthy. It is probably that 5% tone difference- like between a vintage guitar and a reissue.
Just my opinion.
Funny- I have tons of old tubes- I just hoard them. I don't change them out until something fails. But I just love them- love the hunt- love checking them- gives me a little piss shiver...
OK- back to your regularly scheduled program.
