All jokes aside, a customer of mine owns a "basement burst" which he found just 15 minutes from where I live. Here are excerpts from our correspondence when I was asking about how he acquired it:

"This guitar came out of a basement in Middletown a long, long time ago . It was laying face down on a dirt floor. It got a little dirt in the seam as you’ll see in the photos, and very minor water damage... but still plays and sounds great. The seam is not separated..., just has a little dirt in the finish where it joins. The case was on a shelf above a washing machine. I asked the drug addict I got it from why it was on the floor and his answer was “ the phone rang I guess...” it had been there a while. Wish it had been better taken care of, but then again if it had I might not have ended up with it"

"Jimmy was quite a smoker, and drinker, and drugs of every sort.....he’s probably dead by now. That’s been a long time ago. I gave him $4000 for it after him telling me he wanted $3741 for it.... Why that number? I couldn’t tell you.., maybe he owed it to a dope dealer. He was shocked when I told him to keep the change.... Even back then my friends thought I was crazy for paying “that much “ for a guitar"

In the context of this thread it sounds like just another bullshit folklore story, but its absolutely true.
I don't think anyone is doubting that these guitars turn up from time to time, but the OP in this instance was clearly talking a load of shite.
The most worrying thing about this thread was that so many people here couldn't see through the shite and actually believed his story.

No doubt more will show up in this blind luck , Although this thread was transparent from the start how so you ask ?

To much info, but never hitting the target could be worth $ 100,000.00 or more ?

John Bonamassa ?

Plastic Bag ,Kurt Linhof .

Many of his blanks could be filled in online in fifteen minutes .

He's computer literate to join the Forum .

He could post a picture of a R9 with a killer top .

He has his Vintage guitar finding Doofus script down to a science !

Would love to read his private messages from this thread !

In all seriousness, we know there were about 1600 Bursts made between '58 and '60.
Do we know how many are currently documented as correct, 'real' ones? Obviously there are a lot of fakes out there... what's the joke about 1600 made and 3000 documented?
But even considering that there have likely been a good number lost, fire, accident etc, there still are likely some out there that haven't seen the light of day in 60 years.
Add that to the rest of the Les Pauls built from '52 on.

Why would a LP go Lemon Burst with no UV light for 55 years? Smell BS

I get it, I know it was made up. Pointing out if it was hidden for 55 years, it would have a burst left.

That fact that this thread is still going shows the insanity of hope
I once read a quote that has always stuck with me

" Hope is the worst of all evils - because it prolongs Mans suffering "

I have my own sayings too :

"if you love something - do not set it free "

" do not do unto others as you would have them do unto you "

" the love of money is not the root of all evil "

" time does not heal all wounds "
