• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Ugh! People seriously "name" their guitar?

It's a time-honored tradition... don't worry if you don't feel a close enough relationship/connection to yours, there's always barber college... :salude

I really believe this all started with artists that had multiple guitars, switching several times in a performance.

It was so much easier for the tech/crew.

Like," hey man, can you bring me my 1957 Gibson Les Paul Goldtop Standard ? "

Or, " GOLDIE ! " :salude

IMHO YMMV

There are many members here with several historics who simply cannot say " grab my Les Paul "

Which one ? How would you differentiate ? A simple nickname is easy.

"Plain Jane" (2014 R8 plain top) on the left and "Big Red II" (Classic 50's Lacquer Strat) on the right. :salude

Thanks for checking in - we were all wondering what your opinion was on the practice of naming guitars.

Now that you have cleared it up and sufficiently shamed everyone who has ever dared name their guitar, we can all move on with our lives.

Virtue signalling finally arrives at the LPF
I don't name my guitars for the most part, but I'm not going to start a thread about how I don't name my guitars

If this is cringe worthy. You have a tough life in front of you.

I have twin guitars. If I did not name them. How would I know which was which. I do think they try to trick me sometimes.

My Martin D-18 got its Honeybee name when a bee landed on the guitar while i was listening to a Kenny Vaughn tune. One lyric mentioned a honeybee so the combo of the two and boom, guitar named.

You chose a handle to call yourself by here. Why not just use your name? Same difference. It's fun.

Never named a guitar. Never felt the need.

If that's what you need to do, it's cool…but i'll just call it what it is..

I'll bite the bait on this thread. Out of all my guitars, only one has a name. We'll, a name that I gave it. :salude

I usually don't name them, but I have a handful I did, with such appealing names as Cheese Log and Crusty

You might ask Joe b too for that matter

or BILLY GIBBONS

OR...I mean you can go on and on

also watch some rig rundowns.... more times than not the guitars have names. They are part of the family. The roadies name them some times, guitar techs, the guitarist themselves.

i think the short answer to your question is that for some of us, these things are alive, have personalities, and demand to be named, just like anything else that is alive and is something with which you have a real relationship, something you love, and perhaps in many of the rock stars cases it's something of your EXCALIBUR.-speaking of which--- why did they name swords hundreds of years ago?
