Besides his presence on Youtube, he plays in a band named "Cardinal Black" which released their debut album in october 2023 and he played about 70 live gigs in UK and (N-W) Europe during the last 2 and a 1/2 years.
Thanks for that info: I will look into his musical catalog

He is an excellent musican and I find his videos entertaining and informative, unlike detestable posts by envious wet noodles.
I agree with you Big Al. He's creative and does get excellent tone out of whatever he plays. No accounting for taste I suppose.

Unoriginal, bland, staged, homogenous, soulless, I love him so much.

Bonjour.

He's very accomplished in terms of picking, in a hybrid style that moves between plectrum and finger style with ease.

Videos are hit and miss for me, pivoting between informative and somewhat glib. No reason to hate him. I am not a fan of Cardinal Black however which I find meh...

Now the Top Knot, that can go.

Yet who am I to judge? I've got no hair back there! :p

Seen him with Cardinal Black in a small club type venue, live his playing is another level YouTube videos never seem to capture.

Funniily enough I really like the band the atmospherics and dynamics of the more modern sounding tunes are rather sublime and the singer is great too.

Now its his other (old) band I found rather dull.

I'm not criticizing the feelings of anyone in this thread, but I have to say I'm surprised to see so much hate for Chris Buck. I didn't even know he was widely disliked. I have no opinion on his youtube videos, but I do like his playing.

so much hate for Chris Buck
Ok I’ll be honest .. I don’t hate him.. it’s just his version of modern “sports bar guitar” is so obvious and boring.
He’s not original in his style .. which is very obviously all new school text book stuff..inc his pick tucks.. ? it’s like I’m watching his guitar teacher play?
..there’s no originality to his playing.. literally every young YouTuber plays the same thing.

But each to his own.. and if you like him and his style.. great.. ! and I certainly wish him well in his endeavours..
..but he needs to wash his “top knot noodle” hair once in while. (Also don’t buy fake Gibson’s grr)

Bonjour.

In my small circle of guitar playing friends, we’re all quite impressed with young Mr. Buck’s playing/tone/feel.
I think he emotes very well, especially when using fingers rather than pick.
Whether or not his style speaks to you may be subjective, but there’s no doubt the kid’s got it.
I could say the same for Govan Guthrie, or that Italian phenom Matteo Mancuso who plays those arpeggios.
Incredible feats of technical prowess which I can appreciate, but for me - zero musicality.
I’ll take Dave Gilmour over that any day.
Or Chris Buck.

If we’re talking new kids.. then I’ll take Marcus King and Christone "Kingfish" Ingram, all day and all night.. both emote pure soul and feeling in their playing without hesitation or doubt..(which top knot noodle does) and there’s a reason they’re up there with the greats.. and lorded by the industry as “great” and in comparison Top Knot noodle is not even in the same ball park (and that of Mr Gilmore!)

Mr Noodle’s market is one of “online influence”.
Yes “Topper” can play guitar but he’s not an artist, he’s an influencer and to his detriment this will affect his career and standing within the industry.

Maybe if he gets sponsored by Head & Shoulders his chances may increase. ?

Bonjour.

I could name 3-4 players in my local area without having to think more than a few seconds who are better players than mr. greasy hair. He's only anybody because he's a youtube influencer. The skill level is not outstanding. It's all about the marketing and placement.
