• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Thoughts and opinions please..

So you guys are most generally astute enough and way more knowledgeable about these beautiful guitars than I could ever imagine..that said, I was offered this guitar and I really just don’t know what to think. I’ve got two photos of the headstock and feel comfortable enough, since it’s not mine, to post the one of the front. Depending on opinions, I can elaborate more if necessary..thanks again!

I do know the tuners are replacements and the truss rod cover is incorrect, I’m just wondering if it’s worth investigating further?

A lot more details are needed, really.
What is it being offered as?
IF it's supposed to be a vintage (pre-1961) Les Paul, I agree with Dutch to look for something else. But if it's something else, then maybe?
way too many variables with the facts given to have an absolute yes or no.

Not sure it's a Gibson. Look at the edges coming back from the nut to the first 'point.' The treble side looks longer than the bass side to me.

I did find a few more photos, complete top and back.. As for what it’s being presented as, it is indeed being sold as a pre-1961 Les Paul. The serial puts it in the late 9-1600 range. Far from mint, however possibly all original where it counts. I haven’t seen it in person yet but it’s with a ‘54 Goldtop so?1674226338346.jpeg

I may be the odd man out here... But play it first. Maybe it plays like a dream.

Just from the headstock alone:

- Gibson logo is wrong (especially with the 'o' and 'n')
- 'Les Paul Model' silk-screen is in the wrong position and is the wrong line thickness/shapes/etc
- Truss-rod cover shape, style and plastic type is wrong
- head-stock shape isn't right (what struck me most was the lack of curve on the edges coming up from the nut to the wings.)

... and probably more, but i'm not an expert.
