• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Just keeping score here...

Ribald is OP, May 2003
RiverCityVintage resurrected Nov 2019
(Lots of drama on Christmas 2019)
RiverCity re-resurrects mid-Jan 2020
(Silence.. and a world pandemic)
StoneN re-re-resurrects Mar 2022
Liroychixik re-re-re-resurrects Oct 2022
Let's keep this zombie kickin

Now if only someone would've told OP to buy a Murphy-aged Duane Allman in '03 he would've tripled his investment (guessing.. doubled if accounting for inflation). What'd those suckers cost back in the day anyways?

I'd like to hear your opinion of which of today's Les Paul models -- including historics, customs, and standard lines - would make the most sense in terms of investment value five or ten years in the future. That is, I want to buy a Les Paul today and be able to sell it for significantly more five years from now. Should I get a Standard, a Class 5, an Elegant, or what? Thanks.
You will take a loss on the guitar if you sell it on Ebay. People are interested in one thing. How cheap they can get your guitar. Even American made models you have to lower your price in order to sell it. Forget selling it at a profit.

I always seem to lose money on guitars, so I never buy them as an investment. I buy them as a tool/toy to enjoy and make noise.

My biggest ROIs or profit makers have been from vintage watches, mostly vintage dive watches.

Guitars are not a very good investment, there are much better investments. However, every now and then you luck out!

Any Gibson Custom Shop artist reissue purchased in the ‘00s would have yielded a positive return by now. Level of return depends on how long you’re willing to hang onto the goods and who that artist was. Pearly Gates, Beano, Hot Lanta reissues being at the top of the return scale.
