I know i am going to get heck for this but it is just my opinion.Yesterday an old friend came over and we A-B'd about 10 guitars ,through a Maestro GA2RT amp.My refin burst sounded better then all the other guitars till we got to a first rack ES-345 with a huge neck and black ring.The 345 was SO HUGE AND BIG AND FAT WE BOTH JUST LOOKED AT EACH OTHER .It out bloomed the burst as much as the burst out did the other ES's Jr's GT's etc.Again just the opinion of two old farts but 2 old farts who have owned and played thousands of vintage guitars between us for over 40 years each.
Let the fight begin. Please any of you guys have a guitar or have heard a guitar you think is a Burst Killer please post it in the thread.Thanks and again this is just an opinion which is like butt holes i have been told by GIL. .Thanks Mike B.

Always fancied the early 345's with black selector ring. Would love to own one someday. Is the varitone still connected? Some say they suck some tone , others don't.

Had a late '59 early '60 about 10 years ago when they were way under 10K. It was nice , but nothing to write home about , IMO. Had a '59 335 after that and thought it sounded better than the 345 to my ears.

That's how you heard it and I don't doubt it. I've witnessed similar things myself.

Listening through old cathode biased, little to no negative feedback tube amplifier and a good speaker really highlights the character of the guitar. The one you like, is the one you like. It sounds like you guy's had a good time!!

We had a great time Al and i agree with you it is subjective as to which guitar sounds better.We were both amazed how much richer -fuller -bigger -clearer -not sure that describes how it sounded different then all the rest.We both thought the burst sounded the best till w plugged in the 345 and then we both just sat there with our moth's open.Glad you are feeling a little better good to on line talk to you.Mike B.

Yup, I hear ya!
Chords sound phenomenal on my '59 345.
Sparkle and clarity is second to none.
Wonder if the semi-solid center block construction has something to do with it? :hmm

Joe my next choice after the first rack ES-345 is an early GT this one i loved 7-3957 with un-labled PAF's .Vic and Joe S. owned this one as well.Those early GT's in particular are amazing.Thanks for all the great music i love the feel you play with.Mike B.

I want to thank you guys for all the posts and kind comments.If my wife would let me spend the money i would love to buy another burst .But somehow i do not think she is going to say sure honey go spend the money and get a killer GUITAR,except in my dreams.So i guess i am stuck where i am .I do remember and have the photo's of the killers i used to own.Priorities change and guitars come in and out of your life like friends sometimes.Mike B.

Dude!!! I own 7-3941 and 7-3945.... Agreed plus a 1,000,000 Non Sticker PAFs and tons of fun.... Burst Killers for sure!!:dude:

Now we are talking here is another early GT with Pre-label PAF's on right.It was a little beat but sounded unreal[AS I RECALL IT WAS IN THE 7-57xxRANGE]. With a Black Part GT that my friend Vic--THE LEGEND-- owned then.Come on guys we got the real early Es-345's and Goldtops with un-labeled PAF's for Burst Killers there have to be more guitars out there that some of you think are Burst Killers -please post EM.Thanks to all you guys who posted your great guitars,Mike B.

I don't have the slightest reason to doubt your experience, Mike. As you know I share your passion for ESes and always tried to figure out, what the reason is why I prefere the sound of some of them over the best sounding Bursts, because that's my feeling about it.

Banker, this Blonde is just sick.

Are the early 57 GTs with non stickered PAFs all Mahogany, or do they have maple tops?
