Sun aging my R9

I was wondering if I would see any reasonable results by leaving my R9 out in the backyard sun to age for a couple of days. We have some mighty hot sun here in south Texas at this time of year. Has anybody tried this with any worthwhile results? Thanks.

Yeah the red mahogany ages real easy into brown. I kind of like the red better. My neck is almost brown just from playing. There are guys around here who have refinished the neck already from lacquer wear.

After about 5 hrs of sunlight. I have found....

The yellow on the top is little harder to fade. But mine has some. It fades into an oranger hue. My tea-burst stain is about the same as when I got it.

Omar,
You might want to wait until the winter months when the direct sun is not so hot. I would think that letting it sit out in mid summer sun (even direct sun through a window), probably 110+ degrees, that you would cause the finish to crack. Anyone else think so?

Sunbathing

Why don't you take it to a tanning booth. You can check out some chicks while your R9 tans. Oh, I mean fades. Plus all that Texas humidity can't be healthy. Let us know the results.

I appreciate your replies and y'all brought up some good points. I think that I'll just let it age naturally by playing the heck out of it as I wouldn't want to mess up any glue joints or anything. Thanks.:wail:

Sun Burn

I think UV light is the real cause of fading. Although direct sunlight will speed the fading process, I don't think baking your prised guitar in the sun is a good idea? The heat factor could cause any number of problems. The glue joint in the neck could swell the tongue area, leading to an expensive leveling repair. You could place the guitar by a window in the sun, checking often that it does not get hot. Just close the blinds for five minutes, then open again. The UV light will do its job, just takes years. The tanning both idea sounds like a possibility.

How about rubbing some Man-Tan on a Lemonburst? I've noticed the lacquer getting thin on the neck and where your arm rests on the upper bout. I put one of my "Replicas" near a westerly facing window here in the Nation's blastfurnace and it turned the Top
an Orange hue. Time to get the sprayguns out.

Tanning Bed finish-aging...

I believe that there's something over at Guitar Reranch -- http://www.reranch.com -- on using a tanning bed on a Tele to successfully age the finish... check it out!

What about a 1997?

Does anyone know how to fade the back on a 97´R8? I know the new ones fade quickly, but the 97´s are different. Is there anyting you can do with them?
