It wasn't called summer NAMM then ... just NAMM.
It was much more recent that they started a winter NAMM that eventually became the NAMM show.
Then they added a summer NAMM.

That is a point worth noting Tom and I did run across it in my research. Thank you.

The information I found on my ski trip was that the 1968 NAMM show was held at the Conrad Hotel in Chicago June 23 -26 1968. I'll try to confirm it either ended on the 26th or 27th as VonPrikler suggested.
