Two cabs in parallel sound so good...but so heavy.
We tend to play smaller venues so I like to run my Univalve head (USA 7025 in V1, EH 12AU7 in V2, and single Westinghouse 6L6GC) most times with my LPs into either the Roll channel (everything dimed) or Rock channel (gain on about 10 o'clock). Believe it or not, I typically run into the speaker of my V-Series 1 x 12 combo (Weber 12-inch Blue Dog ceramic). Sounds weird I'm sure but I set that combo on its side, and set the Univalve on top, and I'm good to go (with built in amp backup if needed).
But in my home studio, I have gotten into the habit of playing my Univalve through a pair of cabinets in parallel: an Avatar 2 x 12 loaded with mixed Celestion G12H30 Anniversary and Vintage 30 ceramics, and a Reason Amplification 2 x 10 with pair of Weber 10A125 alnicos.
This speaker/cabinet mix is simply amazing. While the Avatar cab is really great for overdrive and thump, when you clean up the signal it never really chimes. On the other hand, the Reason cab just has the most lovely sparkle and chime on cleans, and creamy blooming overdrive with gain, but really no bottom end. Put the two together and you get this swirly mess of goodness.
Someone explain to me that in a band mix no one will ever hear the difference between a single 12 inch ceramic speaker, versus these two extension cabinets run at the same time. Don't make me want to haul these things to every gig.
