• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Interesting comparison. Clearly the old Burst has most mellow and smooth tone, but i wouldnt perhaps say the best. :wah

Pretty pointless and I wish they had HiDef video so we could really *see* that Burst.

that was one of the better tone comparisons and i thought was nicely done...the subtleties came through nicely on my speakers...they all sounded great.i personally lean towards the re-issue R 8 for its clarity, but then thats probably just bias on my part...thx for sharing!

It is all silliness when it comes down to it... at least for me. Spent way too much time doing the same....

100% agreed. When I pick up a guitar I don't care what a different specimen of that type sounds like, I can only play one at a time so why bother with the comparisons? I don't need the best example of anything as long as the one in my hands does the trick. But I am happy that the run-of-the-mill Gibson Historic does compare so favorably with the more exclusive models.

Thanks for posting this. Very interesting and well done. The R8 sounds great. They all sound good. Yes, the '59 has a little more of that thing we all crave, but that R8 is right in there.

Great stuff....... but not sure what to say next .......

...... non of the guitars played were 'dogs'. All sounded 'fine' to my ears. All the guitars played were quality instruments.

Any differences or similar differences detected could perhaps be found in the next guitar made on the same assembly line and on the same day for each of the models played. No two guitars will ever be the same..... there will always be those slight but characteristic nuances that all guitars possess.

Which one would I love to own the most? Without doubt the '59 burst, and for the same reason I love my Rolex watch, even though my Seiko or even my old Timex will keep time just as accurately and reliably as any Rolex.

It's the 'mojo' we all love. It is not necessarily the performance.

Great posting BTW MS57 - even if we have seen similar things before. No good hiding our heads in the sand. This is the essence of what a forum devoted to Les Paul guitars should be about.

Not all the time, but some of the time.

Thanks Guys!
