Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!
Take the edge of a soft cotton cloth and wrap it under and around the knob to be removed. Pull on the cloth and the knob will come off without any damage to the finish.
go to a hardware store and locate a small 'L' shaped pry bar.
get one that is about 6" long ....get some shrink tubing ,apply to the small length of the pry bar and you have a padded lever .
To use this ,you must go a little at a time and rotate the shaft/knob while gently lifting.
On Gibson's CTS pots ,there is a retaining 'C' clip at the top of the shaft ...you must not pry that off (it will go flying and is awful to relocate! -plus once distorted ,it becomes tough to re-install)
This works 99.9% of the time ...then there are those pots that have knobs glued to them or someone has melted the pots on ,by heating the shaft and shoving the knob on .Those are really fun to remove.
If you rotate the shaft ,then the pot should not rip apart.
