• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Repetitive Question #2781

Ok, I'll ask this old chestnut re: Historic Replacement knobs.

Does anybody know of a readily available aftermarket gold knob that looks fairly authentic to replace the amber knobs on the Historic models?? I remember a discussion regarding this on the old board(s) and I can't for the life of me remember the outcome..

Dave P has suggested the old red Gibson blister packs if you can find them, and I was wondering if anybody has snagged the Allparts or Stew Mac versions?? any thoughts as to any of the ones mentioned and are they "slightly" ambered and not the 30 weight look of the Historic knobs..

Thanks for helping jog my feeble memory!!:)spin

Yeah I found the website, but I don't read Japanese.. They have the right color and shape. Dave P told me about these, but said they were VERY expensive.

I found a set of real ones for $450, but that's more than I want to spend..

So hence the aftermarket search!! :)

The closest thing that I came across yet was buying a set of allparts unambered gold knobs, stripping the gold paint out of them, respraying the inside with an ambered color, and then using 40 year old bronze power to make the right gold paint, and THEN spraying the gold back in over the ambered color. yeah, it sucks, but it looks real good. The other thing is to find a set of historic knobs that aren't that dark, and redoing the gold, but the knobs have to be real light to start with, not too rootbeer looking. F**king gibson and their rootbeer barrel knobs, jeez.

Hey RICH, thanks for the tips.. I'm not sure I'm gonna go that far, but I wouldn't mind just finding a set of allparts gold tophats with the embossed letters.. found two, but I need 8!! Sheesh!!

Well anyway

on with my search...
