• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

...probably old news to many ppl here, as it's been out a while

it's an interesting perspective on the music scene in the '60's, and how it evolved, in the UK and US

some great background on some interesting events:

Greece, and the abandoned LP/Marshall
The Beatle's acid infused debut of Sgt Peppers on vinyl, in that club
John Mayall
SWALBR lyrics scribbled on a napkin in a bar

I'm only as far as the Aretha Franklin session during Disraeli recording in New York

it's not as in-depth or philosophical as Keith Richard's book, but nonetheless an enjoyable read

thanks Eric!

wow...the second half of the book is a real cautionary tale about substance abuse

thanks WBailey, I will track that down. am definitely a fan

have not read Patti Boyd's biography; never knew someone wrote one. is it any good?

XPW: good news they are making a movie. should be interesting

although I have to say: I am really a fan of his early stuff, and bluesy stuff, rather than the adult contemporary

Patti wrote it. But I have to warn you won't like Clapton very much as a person after you read it. I read Clapton's biography too but its been so long I can't remember how I felt about Clapton the person afterwards.

I really like Clapton's guitar playing from around '66-70. But I don't get the whole Clapton is God thing.
Once Cream split up I personally lose interest in anything he's done. Which ironically is around the time he stopped playing Gibson guitars.

yep I have similar tastes...although the outtake jams from LAYLA are stupendous, you should check them out

those guys were a great band. Bobby Whitlock kicked ass. I have yet to read his book though. there was a looong thread on the steve hoffman forum where Bobby himself started posting stuff about Layla sessions, which prompted him to write the book

Clapton gives a lot of credit to Carl Radle & Jim Gordon too. tragic what happened to them.

I might check out Patti Boyd's , thx for the headsup!

Clapton was messed up from the early '70's to the 2000's. kind of sad: the guy who had pretty much everything had to go through that hell. maybe I'm glad I'm not a rock star, after all

After Cream i really lost interest , he has done well & stayed in the game . So little time for practice and learning i just don't spend time reading , the book sounds like a good read thank you for posting .
