Question about R0 VOS

I have an '06 R0. Almost all of the R0's I've seen have highly figured tops and a very thin neck profile. The only other plaintop I've seen is a darkburst. My guitar came with a "Gibson Custom" black case with the dark red interior, not the Lifton case. It came with all of the case candy including a spare set of single ring Klusons. The axe is fitted with double rings. It has CTS pots and bees and the VOS look. It has a neck profile that is more similar to an R9 than any R0 I've ever seen. .840 at the nut and .930 at the 12th fret. My receipt says the guitar is model #LP R0 VO tea burst. The COA has the serial 0 63xx hand written in but the model number is not filled in. Does this make sense to anybody? I'm confused. I have some pics of the guitar on my PC, but I don't have a web site so I have no way of posting them. I'm a computer idiot. I know how to build 'em and fix 'em, but I don't know how to use them very well. Any input about this guitar would be welcome. Thanks.

plain, try photobucket.com. you can post your pics for free on that site.

BTW as long as the guitar sings and their is nothing noticably off with the shape, truss rod cover, logo, etc., i wouldn't worry about it.

Black case seems normal. That's what came with my R0. I tried puting it in a Lifton case once and it didn't fit right. The neck didn't rest against the neck rest. There was a gap under the neck because of the fat R9 neck that was in there before. So the R0 would just rattle around when the case was closed :hee

.840 translates to 21.33 mm which IMO is the best size. Also, that's slightly thicker than the '50's USA production necks.
My R0 has the slimmest neck measurement I've heard of: 20.1 mm at the first fret, which is pretty much the same as a JPP (but without the middle carved out).
My R9's were around 22.7 mm.

I posted how to use photobucket and post pics for another forum member.
Look in the Front Desk area.Hope it helps.

Where did you buy the R0?Was it new? Also was it stamped R0 in the control cavity.Being an '06 you don't have a GCR0 since there is not a G in the serial number. This model got the G starting in '04.
The Custom Shop has made at least one R0 plaintop this year.I own it.I have the Darkburst/Darkback R0 plaintop. You may have another in a Teaburst.Mine came with installed single ring tuners with the double rings in the case. Both are Historically correct for the 60's.Mine as Ro's should came with the Lifton case. The neck measurements on ine are the same as yours.I've owned a '03 GR0 for a short time too.I also have an '04 R0 Flametop that will be here Monday. All three have the same neck profile and measurement.Mark gave me the neck measurements on my incoming one.The R0's seem to be the only Historic that have a consistant neck carve and thickness. When you get photos posted it would help. Here are some of my Darkburst plaintop to compare. This one is not a VOS.

That's a typical R0 neck I believe. Mine is 0.840 and 0.935 if I remember
correctly. Sean started a thread on R0 neck sizes so you could check it
out to see how your neck compares to other R0s.

That looks like a VOS R0 to me. Many have a lot less flame in the maple caps than regular models and the necks are definitely closer to the R9 than before.

The cases seem to be black or brown depending upon which day you get the guitar! You're much better off with the black case from a protection point of view.

I have no idea why you got the extra tuners but, hey, I wouldn't complain about 100 bucks worth of extras!

Looking again at your pic, it really does look like a real burst from 1960.

Here's a similar one made in August 2006.

Heh... those look nothing alike!

plaintop60, did you pay R8 or R0 figured top prices for it?

Nice looking guitar... but it seems a big hunk of plastic fell off of it. :)
