Does anyone have any ideas of how many 58 plaintops were made in 1995,1996 ,1997 or 1998.

I don't know about those years but think someone here
speculated based on ???? there were about 200 or so '94
(R8) plaintops. That number seems a bit high to me but don't
know. It was the 1st year for the R8 models.

I would think more like 50 or less '58 plaintops in '94. They were very hard to get at that time.

That could well be. I have only come in contact with 3 myself
and know of one that was on e-bay a couple years back and of
a fellow that had a couple. I have 2 myself.
The whole thing about the '58 came about because of the
demand for the '57 and that finish was very labor intensive
with the gold finish. The whole "paint" room at Gibson had to be
cleared or covered to do gold because the mist floated in the air
and could get on anything in there. It was very labor intensive
and could only be done at certain intervals.
So to fill the demand the '58 was created and was pretty much
at first, at least basically a '57 with a non gold or laquered stained finish.
I found out that Iodine was a part of the coloring mix which
was very interesting but at the same time made sense.

Dan, Only in regular photos. I'll have to try to do some decent digitals and
maybe upload to Lilly pics. Is that your '95? It looks real nice and pretty
much close in finish to mine.

BluesforDan, you sure that's a plaintop? That looks cool.

The color is exactly like the infamous '99 color.
