Photobucket fix?

Saw this on another forum, and it seems to work:

In the cases where former/current PhotoBucket users haven't deleted or clobbered their collections, Chrome and Firefox now have (since August at least) plugins that will display 3rd party hosted images by fiddling with the referrer or some-such...entirely in the background without any user intervention.

Testing testing..1,2 1,2 ....

Nice one Jim....:salude:salude

Just checked a few threads where the dreaded photobucket error message had replaced the posted pictures, and the pictures are back.

This works Gents.

Tom,

Are you using Firefox, and did you click on the link then the "Add to Firefox" button? Then you will be asked to allow permissions.

if you did, you should see the photos.

No, I am not. And I am not adding some program to my computer just to see someone else's photos.
Mine seem to show just fine, and I do not need Firefox to see the photos I post.

Same error message .... no photo.

It was your post that I replied to.
No photo showing. Just an error message.

Cheers Tom. Seems the fix has it's limitations, I figure everyone will have to be running the same extension to see each others pictures. Fwiw, it took me 15 seconds to download the extension in Chrome.

It's a good fix as far as it goes, it'll save a huge amount of pictoral archive material here from the dreaded photobucket error message - but I understand not everyone wants to run stuff on their computers they aren't familiar with. Particularly when other platforms like imgur work perfectly well as hosting sites for our pictures....

But, and for me it's an important but, those other platforms won't save the massive amount of pictures here that are lost to the photobucket fiasco...The pictorial archive is a jewel in the crown on this Forum imho.

I hope Jim comes in with a reply, he's using the extension like me, and I could use confirmation that he can see my pictures.

Sorry, yes I can see your photos.

Like you, I want to see all the stuff that others posted in old threads. As long as they didn't strip their stuff from photobucket, it shows up fine.

Just an afterthought... not volunteering mind you, but, theoretically, if someone(s) with this plugin installed were so inclined, they could copy and paste the photobucket images to another image service, keeping the same exact name, and allowing for a simple database search and replace to bring those images back to life... just a thought... :eek:la

That's a good idea, although a huge amount of work for any one individual. Maybe it'd be better if we could spread the word amongst us to get the extension working on an individual basis, and rebuild the picture database as a shared endeavour.

Like you, I think this is not a perfect fix, but it does make all those old threads useful again :) .

Thanks but........Day late and a dollar short. Had this been out last month I would not have moved then deleted everything from the d**kheads site. I was not about to let Photobucket have access to my stuff if I could not. Crap. Oh well. I'll find the CEO/Owners names and be SURE to never purchase into their pockets again. Growing list lately...
