• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Again great playing by the guitarist I posted, he could tour with Paul Rodgers and it would sound awesome. Not easy to get the Koss 'vibe' and he does........:applaude :applaude

Funny thing about that photo is Koss' wife told me she actually took it in the living room. Then took one of the trash outside and they fused the two pics together.

I always get emotional when I hear Koss play. His style and tone are proof positive that a million notes a minute shredding can't compare with a groove with emotion and tone. I say if you play only three notes and you touch someone's heart and soul you've done your job as a musician.:yah Here's a hypothetical question my brothers. What if the surviving members of Free reunited with Slash in Paul's spot? Would it kill or what? Would you go see them? Just an idea......:jim

I MISS YOU PAUL. God rest you.

This is a great quote. I once read that Clapton compared super fast guitar
playing to a non-contact karate match. Good one, Eric.

I believe Slash has played with Paul Rodgers on Free songs before, and though he is influenced by Koss, he wouldn't be he perfect match. And Slash doesn't know all the inversions and other things Koss played, he just plays them how they are commonly played, with just regular old chords, he doesn't add or leave out notes like Koss did. Koss liked to leave out the 3rd in his chords, and in this interview said he didn't like using the 3rd unless he had to use a major or minor chord to make the song sound right. The 3rd determines whether the chord is major or minor. flat 3rd is minor, and a 3rd w/ out any raising or lowering is of course major.

Not sure I agree that it is a 'fused' photo - shadows, light, and color tone on Kossoff look like the same strong sunlight as the alley to me.

Yeah I wasn't making fun of his height, I just said that because he usually looks a lot taller, usually he looks to be about my height, 5'8". I don't care how tall he was, infact I'm kind of glad he was short because it gives us players who aren't so tall a good feeling to know that there are great guitar players that are short too.

Koss was indeed no taller than 5'3". His wife told me he was the same size she was and they wore each others jeans.

Interesting! They fused the two pictures together? What version of Photoshop did they use? I know some people who are wizards with modern versions of Photoshop who couldn't make the picture look that realistic. They must have been some kinda magicians with the primitive photo editing software back then! Impressive! :hmm

look...as a kossoff fan since the first time i heard 'all right now' about 70-71 or so on am radio to the time that koss' passed away on a plane flight across the united states, i've been defensive of koss' and the horrendous things that apparently were done to paul kossoff plus the slandering which has taken place surrounding his death.

paul had folks taking advantage of him as his health decline and addiction to powerful barbiturates continued to his eventual death.

his problems were not ONLY drug related, there were other health issues going on,the likes of which are up to debate.

sorry if i came off as overly defensive of koss'.

Thats what she said and i cant see any reason why she would lie to me about it. But you're welcome to your opinion.

No worries JCS, i too am very overprotective of Koss and his memory.

Alot of Koss' problems(which led to his drug and alcohol abuse) was his position in the band. From everything his wife has told me, Andy Fraser(i love him he's my fav bassist) is a total control freak. Andy and Paul Rodgers had creative control of the band much in the same way that Jagger and Richards do of The Rolling Stones. This didnt sit well with either Koss or Kirke but it affected Koss the most. As many of you probably already know, it got to a point where Andy was showing Koss how to play the rhythm parts the way he thought they should be played, and naturally Koss hated that. Of course at the same time, FREE was his life/family so when they fell apart he was devistated. It was basically a lose/lose situation for him.

You are not joking, it looks like the entire corner wall has been rebuilt - note the row of 'header' bricks at head height on the Koss photo.

Well, maybe she said it... but look at the picture. Tell me how YOU think it was done. :hippy No one said she's lying. But peoples' memories get fuzzy over time. Maybe she just doesn't remember it correctly. It's a cool picture, no doubt. But it doesn't even pass casual scrutiny as being a composite picture. :salude
