• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

I found this clip of Free, featuring the legendary Paul Kossoff, who's awesome feel playing and vibrato are featured in this version of Songs Of Yesterday from a show in Manchester in 1970. The camera actually shows his playing albiet briefly, awesome tone and playing from the whole band.:dude: :applaude

Awesome clip from an awesome band.
Hard to believe it's been 30+ years since Koss died. What a guitarist:2zone

Koss is the man. Free is the s***. Funky tight bass, funky rock drums, soulful singing, kick ass Les Paul riffage and searing, melodic solos, simple but effective songwriting. The more I discover about this band, the more I love!

This is my favorite song by Free. Check out Koss with Orange amps!: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EqGOVWeD_Mc

It has a little flame to it. That footage doesnt show it off very well. Its easier to see in photos of Koss playing it.

There's a member kicking around this forum somewhere whose signature is something like "power is nothing without control".
Exhibit a, Paul Kossoff in these clips.

just wanted to add my vote for Kossoff being one of the greatest of the greats. Kept it simple & perfect, the way it should be - and what tone! listening to the master right now :wail

The one thing I didn't dig so much with Free was the in-your-face bass work.
Okay, Fraser's great, but WTF...

Rumbling, that 'I'll Be Creepin' vid is a great example of how good it gets when Fraser isn't in the way. Gorgeous.
