• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

If any of you guys have an old '50s one (or a new Chuck Berry model) can you please tell me what the neck profile is like.
I'm a fat neck player and would like one of these P90 equipped Gibsons later on if the neck matches my want, it's either that or M2M.

Medium to large C Steve....not bat shaped.

I played a 1950 a few years ago, and seem to remember ( isn't it funny, I can't remember the "important stuff" but I can remember the dimensions of a guitar neck I played at a show years hence...) .90 at the 1st, and an inch at the 10th.

If I'd have gotten a little more serious about my Jazz Be Bop playing, this is the guitar that I'd have sought out.

Marvellous guitars.

Thanks Paul, that's my thing too, pick up the guitar.........'err that necks a little thin on it' in a lot of cases, not that there are any to play here in NZ.
I'll be looking into it this in the next year or so once I get my 335 in hand and feel its neck profile.
Eric using one of his ones in Nothin But The Blues vid playing Forty Four.............sublime stuff.

The Memphis runs towards the end were pretty fabulous.

I would not call them a huge neck, but it is pretty substantial.

That 330 as you say looks like it's got a neck with reasonable beefiness to it ren, not unlike the width and depth of the heel as on my '14 Nashville 335 which is around .940 at the 1st and 1.05 12th.
The width at the nut has a lot to do with the feeling of a fuller neck on these ESs.

Excellent thanks Paul, these early full bodied ones with that knob on the bottom bout are a jazz players dream
They are indeed Steve.

Apologies for adding some confusion to your request for info on the thinline version (1955 onward? ).

I really need to pay more attention.

Well I learnt that the earlier ones are full bodied so nothing is done that isn't beneficial in one way or the other, cheers for that (y)

There's no cutaway, it's got one of those "smile" headstock cracks, and even with that issue you're dealing with Retrofret pricing, but these ES-300s (no-cutaway sibling of the early ES-350) are all kinds of awesome, and those early P90s sound great. And the blondes are rare. I had a '49 with a custom fingerboard inlay that now resides in Nerdville with Joe Bonamassa. Necks are huge!

Since nobody has yet to mentioned it, the ES-350T has a short scale neck 23 1/2", the full bodied ES-350 is 25 1/2". The neck width will be narrower on the 350T.

What a beauty blauserk with 2 P90s plus blonde finish.........a rare bird indeed
Fat necks on the earlier guitars follows in the Gibson style of the time, now we've got to go M2M to equal that.

Thanks for this Vambo (y)
The difference being 1/16th at the nut between the two..........cheers.
