• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

overwhelmed with pedal choices what would you recommend?

I’m sure you’ll get ‘loads’ of recommendations - I don’t like pedal’s & am sooooooo finicky about certain gear - only 2 pedals have made the cut so far both from a guy called Thorpy fx in the uk (a self confessed pedal nut!)

I have the peacekeeper od & a fat general compressor - not found anything as noiseless & musical sounding yet ! - maybe worth a look.

There’s also another great guy called 633 engineering in the uk - another great drive pedal maker.

Only other pedal I fancy trying is the black stone mosfet od

Good luck with the search

I'd check out an ODR circuit with a bass cut like this:

Run the Klon after this to boost it. Another great pedal is a Timmy, Tim, or Lightspeed.

I am a HUGE fan of Origin Effects.

They are expensive, but the best sounding pedals I have EVER owned.

Started out with the OE Slide Rig.

I was SO blown away with the sounds I decided to get the Cali 76 TX-P. I use it on EVERYTHING PERIOD. Vocals, drums, guitar, bass. Anything.

The Slide Rig is flat out awesome as well and works pretty much the same as two 76's cascaded with slightly less control but for slide it can't be beat.

After another Limited run Cali-76 Germanium FET

Then the bastids came oot with this:

I got it as well. Nothing matches what these guys do. You like clean? It makes it clean and RICH. You like dirty? They make it dirty and CLEAR.

I have a lot of pedals and some strange ones like Chase Bliss units, but you said you like simple so this is one I love and it is so easy to use you will wonder why nobody came up with it before...

I use it quite a bit now. Bliss (below) aint for the feint hearted.

Great low gain overdrives that I've been using lately:
Nordland ODR-C
Danelectro Roebuck
Thorpyfx The Dane.
They are all really good 'natural' overdrives with little coloring but with different types of overdrive and features. Very powerful eq on the Roebuck, great clean boost on The Dane. My overall favorite overdrive is probably the ODR-C.

I'll throw my two bits in here. Having gone through many many different pedals, from many many different companies, for overdrive / distortion I am partial to bosses jb2 angry driver. The range that pedal can deliver is very similar to the range the Les Paul itself can deliver. Everything from bluesy Overdrive, to fuzzy sounds to full-blown raging Plexi sounds.

For delay, I use an earthquake devices dispatchmaster, but I'm not sure it's any better than my old boss dd3.
