i would have to agree w/ EdA. the pickups make all the difference. if you want to hear what a "new" paf sounds like ck out a tom holmes. there is no way you can compare a stock historic pickup with an original but the Holmes will go a long way to bridge that gap. i have both. something that is kind of strange
about the 40 year old tone capabilities of the original bursts is that most of them were less than 10! years old when the music
that made them special was recorded. If the Beano album was
recorded today would it sound even better because the pickups had aged and the wood had dried out? i think not. strum a burst,
historic or original without an amp. then plug it in. does it sound the same when electrified as it does as an accoustic? no. pickups. the guy that gets home at 4am and gets all bothered because his new one does not sound like his old one and i hope his old one sounds better to him because we all know how much he thinks it's worth, needs to move on with some more worthwhile research. enjoy, because Everything will eventually get
old.
